FA Women’s Championship club Liverpool have today confirmed three changes to their backroom staff.
In an official club press release issued to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time, The Reds have confirmed the appointments of Amber Whiteley, Dr Leon Creaney and Dr Francesca Champ in a move which the club hope will strengthen their technical, medical and sports psychology teams.
Whiteley has been promoted to assist manager Vicky Jepson following her good work with the club’s Under-21s and in their Regional Talent Club (RTC). She has previously worked in an assistant coach role at former club Sunderland while she also has experience of working in the international coaching system with England Under-18s.
Dr Creaney becomes Liverpool’s team doctor after being employed in similar roles at the World University Games and for British Athletics working with various teams. He also has a vast experience working in private sports medicine and has spent some time working in the men’s game.
Dr Champ joins Liverpool as a first performance psychologist. She has previously been a lecturer in Psychology of Football and is currently studying mental health in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship. She has also worked in various senior and youth football structures in the past.
The trio replace departing first team assistant coach Emma Humphries and doctor Phil Clelland.
Liverpool moved into third position in the FA Women’s Championship table yesterday with a 4-0 home victory over Crystal Palace.
