Liverpool set for tough test as they look to shake off awayday woes

Liverpool face a tough test as they bid to return to winning ways on the road in the FA Women’s Championship with Vicky Jepson’s side facing a London City Lionesses side in good form at Princes Park this afternoon.

The Reds would be top of the FA Women’s Championship right now if not for their stuttering form on the road. Jepson’s side have collected just two points from their last three games on their travels and they cannot afford to let that unpredictable form continue if they are to sustain their title challenge with Durham, Leicester City and Sheffield United.

Since recording away victories over both London Bees and Coventry United, Liverpool have lost at promotion rivals Leicester City while they have been held by two improving sides in Lewes and Blackburn Rovers. In contrast, The Reds have dropped just two points in four home games, a statistic which highlights the significant difference in Liverpool’s form at Prenton Park and on the road.

Turning around that away form will not be easy. Jepson’s side travel to Durham next weekend while this afternoon, they face an improving London City Lionesses side who have won all of their last three matches on home soil. Liverpool’s promotion rivals Leicester City fell to a 4-1 defeat at Princes Park just a few weeks ago, a reminder of the cautious approach which The Reds will need to take ahead of this afternoon’s fixture.

Jepson’s side will have taken being in the promotion mix when the season kicked-off but they will need positive results on their travels before the Christmas break if they are to avoid an uphill battle in the second half of the season.
