HEAD-TO-HEAD: The lowdown of Arsenal goalkeeping pair’s stats so far this season

There is some strong competition in the Arsenal goalkeeping ranks this season with Austrian international Manuela Zinsberger battling Australian keeper Lydia Williams for the club’s first choice goalkeeping jersey.

It was Zinsberger who played Arsenal’s first seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures this season, however, Williams has been installed in-between the sticks for Joe Montemurro’s side’s last three league games.

FA Women’s Super League Full-Time take a look at both goalkeepers’ statistics as we assess which player has performed the better ahead of the return of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League next weekend.

Zinsberger has conceded six goals in her seven appearances, an average of 0.86 goals-per-game whereas Williams’ goal has been breached twice in her three outings which works out at 0.67 goals-per-game.

Despite playing four games less, Williams has kept two clean sheets, one more than fellow keeper Zinsberger. It is Zinsberger who has made the greater percentage of saves though, the Austrian has saved 68.4% of the shots on her goal compared to Williams’ save percentage of 60%. Zinsberger has saved one penalty this season while Williams is yet to be tested from 12 yards.

In terms of the miscellaneous statistics, both goalkeepers have conceded one goal from a corner kick while Zinsberger is the only keeper to have been beaten by one of her own teammates. Williams has been the more dominant in the box from crosses, taking the ball from 9.1% of deliveries compared to Zinsberger’s ball claim percentage of 7.9%.

After winning two of her three matches in goal, keeping two clean sheets, Williams will be hoping to retain her place in the Arsenal side when they travel to Aston Villa on Saturday.
