Inter Miami hold preliminary talks with England boss over potential head coach vacancy

Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami are said to have held preliminary talks with departing England boss Phil Neville over their potential head coach vacancy according to Sky Sports sources.

The Herons could be searching for a new head coach later this year with current boss Diego Alonso’s future at the Inter Miami CF Stadium thought to be uncertain.

It has been reported that Neville has been approached by the American club with initial talks having been conducted.

Neville is set to celebrate three years in charge of the England Women’s team at the end of next week but will be leaving his role in July when his contract with The Football Association comes to an end. The 43-year-old has overseen 35 England fixtures with his side winning 19 of those matches. The Lionesses lifted the 2019 SheBelieves Cup under Neville’s guidance while they were semi-finalists at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.

The Coronavirus pandemic has meant that England have not played a competitive fixture since their failed 2020 SheBelieves Cup defence in March. Neville announced that he would be leaving his role as England manager when his contract comes to an end back in April.

American club Inter Miami were formed in January 2018 by the Miami Beckham United group. Neville’s former Manchester United teammate David Beckham is a part-owner and president of the club.
