Manchester City’s Conti Cup quarter-final meeting with Chelsea postponed

Manchester City’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-final tie against current trophy holders Chelsea has been postponed according to reports on The Cityzens’ official website.

The two Barclays FA Women’s Super League heavyweights were set to meet at The Academy Stadium next week but the game will no longer go ahead and will be played at a later date.

City released a statement on their official website this afternoon confirming the postponement which is again as a result of the positive COVID-19 tests in their camp and ‘other mitigating factors’. This weekend’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United was called off earlier this week for the same reasons.

The winners of Manchester City’s tie against Chelsea are sure to be the red hot favourites to lift the 2020/2021 FA Women’s Continental League Cup. The pair are the only two clubs from the top half of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table left in the competition while there is the novelty of three clubs in the quarter-finals from the FA Women’s Championship.

A new date for Manchester City’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-final meeting with Chelsea will be agreed between the two clubs in due course with the game likely to be pencilled in for late this month or in early February.
