Bristol City’s FAWSL fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion the latest to be called off

Bristol City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion has now been postponed meaning that Reading’s fixture against Chelsea will be the only top flight game to go ahead this weekend.

Brighton & Hove Albion informed FA Women’s Super League Full-Time of the postponement within the last hour with a second player having tested positive for COVID-19. It has been confirmed that seven Albion players are now in self-isolation, two with the virus and five who have been close contacts.

The decision has been made by The Football Association to postpone the fixture on safety grounds. Brighton & Hove Albion had previously requested that the game was called off earlier this week with their squad having been heavily hit with the impact of COVID-19 and injuries, however, their request was denied at that initial stage.

Four Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures had been postponed prior to the cancellation of Brighton & Hove Albion’s trip to Bristol City. Manchester City’s home clash with West Ham United was the first one to fall before Aston Villa’s fixture against Arsenal soon followed. Everton’s meeting with Manchester United was then postponed before Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Birmingham City was called off this morning.

A new date for Bristol City’s fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion will be agreed between the two clubs in due course.
