Former Arsenal defender suffers Supercoppa defeat with Fiorentina

Former Arsenal defender Louise Quinn was on the losing side in the Italian Women’s Super Cup final with her current club Fiorentina losing 2-0 to Juventus at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia this afternoon.

The 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international centre-back joined The Purples in the summer and she has featured regularly for Antonio Cicotta’s side so far this season.

Quinn was named in the starting line-up for this afternoon’s Supercoppa Femminile and went on to play the full 90 minutes for her side but she was unable to prevent Fiorentina from falling to defeat.

Italian international forward Barbara Bonansea netted the opening goal for Juventus six minutes before half-time while she was also on target early in the second half to put the game beyond Fiorentina.

This afternoon’s Supercoppa Italiana saw the 2018 and 2019 winners of the trophy go head-to-head in Northern Italy. Juventus were the side bidding to retain the trophy and they went on to do just that.

Former Brighton & Hove Albion defender Matilde Lundorf Skovsen played the majority of the match for Juventus. In addition to ex-Arsenal defender Quinn, former Manchester City and West Ham United midfielder Tessel Middag also started the match for Fiorentina before being replaced by Greta Adami just after the hour mark.

Juventus are the current Serie A Women league leaders with 10 wins out of 10 while this afternoon’s Supercoppa Femminile final opponents Fiorentina trail The Black and Whites by 16 points back in fifth position.
