Out of favour Manchester United full-back Lotta Okvist is thought to be close to agreeing a move to Swedish club Goteborg according to reports by Swedish media outlet Sport Bladet.
The 23-year-old Swedish international defender is currently in her second season with the Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders but has made just four appearances in all competitions so far this term.
With Okvist out of favour at The Leigh Sports Village, the player has long been rumoured to be set for a move away from United and the latest reports in Sweden indicate that she could be close to sealing a move to Damallsvenskan champions Goteborg. It is thought that Okvist could link-up with the club as soon as the back end of this week with Goteborg set to begin preparations for the 2021 Damallsvenskan season.
Goteborg were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by Manchester United’s rivals City in the round of 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League last month before a major sponsor pulled out leaving the club on the brink on extinction. The city have rallied and have secured the continuation of the club, ensuring that they can compete in all competitions in 2021.
After finishing the 2018 and 2019 Damallsvenskan seasons as runners-up, Goteborg’s title success in 2020 was their first, 17 years on from the club’s birth in Gothenburg from former side Landvetters IF.
