Everton midfielder Damaris Egurrola is being linked with a move to European champions Lyon according to press reports by Spanish media outlet El Confidencial.
The 21-year-old Spanish international, who is most at home in a deep midfield role, has impressed for The Blue Girls since joining the club from Athletic Bilbao in the summer and she is thought to have attracted the attention of the European champions.
According to media reports in Spain, it is thought that Lyon will pay a little over £100,000 to trigger a clause in the player’s contract with Everton which would potentially see her move to France.
Egurrola has made six appearances for Everton in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League while she played the first 99 minutes of The Blue Girls’ 3-1 extra-time defeat to Manchester City in the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final in November.
On the international stage, the midfielder has featured heavily for Spain at various youth levels while she was handed her senior debut for the nation in a 4-0 victory over Cameroon in an international friendly fixture ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019. The player did not make the 23-player squad for the finals.
The move to Lyon is one which any player would struggle to turn down and in the case of Egurrola, it may also help her long-term prospects of representing her national team on a regular basis.
