Blackburn Rovers’ FA Women’s Championship fixture against Lewes this weekend has been postponed, the club have announced.
The two clubs were set to meet at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Sunday afternoon but the game will no longer go ahead with players in the Rovers camp having tested positive for COVID-19. A new date of the rearranged fixture will be agreed between the two clubs in due course.
The postponement is the second on the spin for Rovers who saw last weekend’s trip to Charlton Athletic cancelled for the same reason. On that occasion, it was their opponents who recorded positive tests. At this stage, it is not known whether next weekend’s trip to London City Lionesses is in doubt.
Lewes will be disappointed not to be facing Rovers on Sunday with Simon Parker’s side having recorded an excellent 1-1 draw with promotion-chasing Durham at The Dripping Pan last weekend. The Rookettes battled back from a goal down against The Wildcats and were good value for their point.
Parker’s side are next scheduled to be in action on Sunday 24 January when Sheffield United make the long trip to Sussex. Lewes recorded a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in Chesterfield back in October.
