PREVIEW: Chelsea v Manchester United

One of the biggest games of the season in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League will take place this afternoon as second-placed Chelsea take on league leaders Manchester United at Kingsmeadow.

Victory for the hosts will see them leapfrog leaders United on goal difference while any positive result for Casey Stoney’s side will see them remain at the summit.

Chelsea go into the match on the back of an exceptional 5-0 victory at Reading last weekend in which forward Fran Kirby netted four goals. Blues boss Emma Hayes is not thought to have any injury concerns to contend with and her biggest decision to make is whether to tinker with her starting XI with the likes of Magda Eriksson, Ji So-yun, Beth England and Pernille Harder all ready for action if called upon.

The injury situation at Manchester United has improved significantly over the course of the last couple of months. Manager Stoney will again be without striker Alessia Russo who continues to recover from a hamstring injury but otherwise, it is thought that United have a fully fit squad.

Chelsea’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester United is scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 1.
