Spurs appoint Lauren Smith as assistant coach

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the appointment of Lauren Smith as an assistant coach as reported on their official club website.

Smith joins the North Londoners from the Welsh National Team where she has been assistant manager since 2017.During her time with Wales, the senior team broke into the top 30 of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings for the first time.

Smith will already be familiar with the Welsh contingent in the Spurs squad with Josie Green, Anna Filbey and Esther Morgan being in their ranks.

Prior to working with the Welsh National Team, Smith spent seven years at Bristol Academy where she began as an Under-13s coach in 2010 before becoming the club’s 9-19 technical director and first team assistant coach. Smith was an integral part of the team which oversaw Bristol return to the FA Women’s Super League 1 in 2016 under the ‘City’ name. The club also won the Development League, beating Arsenal in the final along with lifting the ESFA Cup in 2016.

Smith’s football journey started with Newton Ladies as a 14-year-old. She studied coaching and physical education at UWIC and worked as a development officer for The Football Association of Wales Trust before joining Bristol Academy. She holds a UEFA A Licence and has also spent time with both Cardiff City and Team GB.

Spurs have confirmed that Smith will join the coaching staff this week and will be in the dugout for the first time on Sunday when the club host Everton at The Hive.
