Everton midfielder Damaris Egurrola has completed her transfer to European champions Lyon according to reports on The Blue Girls’ official website.
The 21-year-old Spanish international midfielder had been expected to complete her move across The Channel for several days and it has now been confirmed that the deal has been rubber stamped.
Lyon are believed to have succeeded with a six-figure transfer bid to secure the player’s signature while Egurrola has signed a deal with the French champions until summer 2024.
Everton have made it clear that the decision to sell Egurrola was one which wasn’t taken lightly. The Blue Girls have confirmed that three transfer bids were rejected before Lyon’s fourth bid was finally given the green light. In the end, the Merseyside club did not want to deny Egurrola the one thing that every player dreams of, representing the most powerful force in Europe.
Egurrola joined Everton from Spanish club Athletic Bilbao in the summer and she was a member of the side which reached a first Women’s FA Cup final in six years. In the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, the midfielder represented The Blue Girls on six occasions.
Everton boss Willie Kirk is thought to be continuing to work hard to bring in reinforcements in this month’s transfer window with the permanent deal for winger Claire Emslie being his only business so far.
