United States head coach pleased to see return of Manchester United forward Press

United States head coach Vlatko Andonovski has admitted that he is pleased to see Manchester United forward Christen Press fit, healthy and in good form ahead of this month’s SheBelieves Cup.

The 32-year-old spent a spell on the sidelines due to a non-COVID illness while the player missed the United States’ January camp as she remained in Manchester in a bid to regain her fitness.

Press was one of the 23 players named in United States head coach Andonovski’s squad for this month’s SheBelieves Cup. Andonovski has been speaking with FA Women’s Super League Full-Time this evening and he expressed his delight at the player’s return to the international stage with Press’ good performance in United’s 2-0 win at Everton yesterday being an added bonus.

“I am very pleased to see Christen back” said Andonovski. “That is the first thing about Christen that I am pleased about.

“The second thing that I am very pleased about is that she played 80 minutes in her last game (against Everton) which means that she is almost back to full fitness, that was one of the issues that she had for the previous camp.

“The third thing that I am very pleased with is that she scored a phenomenal goal in the last game (against Everton).

“These are three things which make me excited to see her back in camp.”

The United States will face Brazil, Canada and Argentina in this year’s SheBelieves Cup. Manchester United forward Press will collect her 140th senior international cap for The Stars and Stripes should she feature in two of those matches while she is just two goals short of the 60 mark for her country.

Press’ goal against Everton yesterday was her second in a United shirt. Both of her goals have come away from the Leigh Sports Village with her first United goal being scored in the 4-2 away victory over West Ham United in October.
