Manchester United winger Hanson signs contract extension

Scotland international winger Kirsty Hanson has extended her stay with Manchester United until 2024, according to reports on The Red Devils’ official website.

Hanson was part of the original crop of players that manager Casey Stoney brought in when the side reformed back in 2018. She went in to lift the FA Women’s Championship title with the club at the end of the 2018/2019 campaign.

Since then, the 22-year-old has gone on to make 57 appearances for The Red Devils, scoring 11 goals in that time. Hanson also received her first senior international call-up in November 2019, reflecting her stellar performances in a United shirt.

When speaking to United’s media sources after signing her new deal, Hanson indicated that she is looking forward to pulling on the kit for many years to come.

“This club means so much to me” said Hanson “I have grown up as a United fan, played in the girls’ academy, and I’m now part of the senior side competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the women’s game, which is a dream come true.

“It makes me proud seeing the way we have developed over the last few years and I am so happy to be signing a new contract.

“I feel like I’m improving as a player every single day and that is down to the environment here.

“We as players push each other constantly and Casey and the staff have given me the confidence and belief to express myself on the pitch.

“I am really excited to continue my journey here and I know we can achieve some big things in the future.”

With exceptional form of both Leah Galton and Tobin Heath, Hanson has had to fight for minutes on the pitch perhaps more so than she had before. However, she has still stepped up with three goals in the league this season, equalling her tally for the last campaign. Following the recent injury sustained by Heath, United boss Stoney could be looking to Hanson to come up with some big performances in the absence of the American.

United currently sit second in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table, level on points with leaders and reigning champions Chelsea. Next up for The Red Devils is a home fixture against Kelly Chambers’ Reading on Sunday followed swiftly by the Manchester derby five days’ later. Hanson will certainly be looking to make an impact in both of those games and really celebrate her new contract in style.
