Lionesses to face Northern Ireland and Canada in upcoming fixtures

The Football Association have today announced upcoming England fixtures against Northern Ireland and Canada as they embark on preparations for the home UEFA Women’s EURO next Summer.

The Lionesses will take on Northern Ireland in the February international break with the game due to be played behind-closed-doors at St George’s Park on Tuesday 23 February. Kick-off is scheduled for 12.30pm and the match will be broadcast on the BBC iPlayer and the BBC Red Button.

It is a fixture that will mark new interim assistant coach Hege Riise’s first game in charge of the Lionesses in what will be the team’s first official fixture in nearly a year. Their fellow home nations side should present a welcome challenge with Kenny Shiels’ team recently sealing a spot in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 play-offs after a fantastic performance in the qualifiers.

England will then face a tough Canada side in the April international window. The fixture will mark a reunion with ex-Lionesses assistant coach Bev Priestman, who returns to face her former side after leaving the England set-up to become Canada’s head coach at the end of 2020. The match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 13 April with a kick-off time and venue details to follow at a later date.

On the subject of admitting a potential crowd for the Canada fixture, The Football Association stated that they are ‘continuing to work with the Government to get fans back into stadiums as soon as is safe to do so’ and therefore ‘any ticketing arrangements will be communicated to supporters when relevant’.
