West Ham United manager Olli Harder has played down the importance of Sunday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against bottom club Bristol City at The Chigwell Construction Stadium.
Sunday’s visitors to Dagenham won their first league match of 2020/2021 last weekend and they now sit just two points behind The Hammers in the table.
West Ham United have lost both of their Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures under new boss Harder without scoring a goal and this weekend’s fixture looks to be a key one in the battle for survival. Harder is keeping level-headed about the game and has played down the importance of the fixture.
“It’s another game of football” said Harder in West Ham United’s post-match press conference following the midweek 6-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.
“We haven’t made it into anything more than it is, it is a game of football and we need to try to win every game that we play.”
West Ham United have lost three of their first four games in all competitions under Harder but the New Zealander insists that there are some signs of progress being made at The Chigwell Construction Stadium.
When asked if his side were making progress he said “Yes, we have just played two of probably the best eight teams in the world in City and Chelsea, they’re on another level.
“It’s about identifying, not a gap, but a chasm. It’s a huge difference in the quality on the pitch but it is our responsibility as a football club to try to narrow that chasm.
“From what I have seen in four weeks, I have been really happy with the progress that we have made in terms of the culture and developing the style of play moving into the future.”
West Ham United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Bristol City is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon and will be available for fans to watch live on the FA Player.
