Sheffield United’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic is the latest game to be postponed on what is an icy cold Sunday.
The Blades were set to take on The Addicks at The Technique Stadium this afternoon but the fixture was postponed around midday with the playing surface still frozen.
Sheffield United have issued a statement via their official club website giving reasons for the late postponement. With the visitors having travelled to Derbyshire yesterday, the match referee gave the pitch time to begin to defrost in a bid for the game to go ahead. In the end, the anticipated increase in temperature did not come quick enough resulting in the postponement.
The cancellation of Sheffield United’s meeting with Charlton Athletic comes on the back of two other postponements this morning. In the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Aston Villa’s clash with Arsenal was postponed for a third time due to a frozen pitch at The Banks’s Stadium while the second tier fixture between Liverpool and Coventry United has also been beaten by the weather.
A new date for Sheffield United’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic will be agreed by the two clubs in due course. The Blades do not currently have another fixture for the next six weeks until they travel to Durham on 28 March.
