Arsenal trio Vivianne Miedema, Jill Roord and Danielle van de Donk were all on target for The Netherlands as they defeated Belgium 6-1 in their opening game of the ‘Three Nations, One Goal’ tournament in Brussels this evening.
The tournament sees the three potential joint-hosts of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, compete over the course of three matches throughout this month.
The opening fixture saw Belgium take on The Netherlands at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels this evening with the visitors running out emphatic winners.
It was a night to remember for the Arsenal representatives in the Dutch squad with all three players on the scoresheet. Striker Miedema netted the only goal of the first half just after the half-hour mark before Sarina Wiegman’s side took complete control in the second half.
Roord scored the game’s second goal nine minutes into the second period before the hosts briefly reduced the arrears when Marie Minnaert pulled a goal back.
The Netherlands were undeterred by the Belgian goal and they quickly established a 4-1 lead thanks to quick-fire strikes from Stefanie van de Gragt and Lieke Martens before Van de Donk completed the full set of Arsenal goalscorers for The Orange Lionesses nine minutes from time. Wiegman’s side rounded-off the scoring in second half injury time through Renate Jansen.
The Netherlands face Germany in their second tournament fixture in Venlo on Wednesday evening.
