West Ham United and Chelsea will both be hoping to collect three points to aid their respective battles at either end of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table when the pair meet at The Chigwell Construction Stadium this afternoon.
The Hammers are just two points above the relegation zone while this afternoon’s opponents Chelsea are the league leaders, although Emma Hayes’ side will be well aware of the excellent form of second-placed side Manchester City who have been closing the gap on them in recent weeks.
West Ham United boss Olli Harder has been working hard with his side in recent weeks trying to implement his system and style of play. The New Zealander has fielded similar line-ups in recent games and he is likely to continue to do so this afternoon.
Fresh from a brace whilst on international duty with Scotland, forward Martha Thomas is likely to lead The Hammers’ attack. The biggest selection dilemma for Harder could be whether to field Lois Joel or Adriana Leon behind Thomas alongside Emily van Egmond.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes will assess the fitness of centre-back Magda Eriksson ahead of the match with the player rated as ’50-50′. England pair Millie Bright and Fran Kirby both came through Wednesday’s UEFA Women’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid at Kingsmeadow and should be involved against The Hammers this afternoon.
West Ham United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
