London City Lionesses ready to rise to the challenge against Leicester City says Phillips

London City Lionesses head coach Melissa Phillips says that her side are ready to rise to the challenge of Leicester City at Farley Way this afternoon.

The Pride will come up against a Leicester City side who need just one more win to secure their place in next season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League. London City Lionesses are the only side to defeat The Foxes this season and head coach Phillips says that her side can rise to the challenge again against Jonathan Morgan’s team.

“Absolutely, we have been able to rise to the challenge against any of the teams that we have played against, especially at the top of the league,” Phillips told FAWSL Full-Time in her pre-match press conference.

“It’ll be a fun one. What an exciting way to finish our season with the quality of the opposition that we have left and that is including the upcoming FA Cup tie with Chelsea.

“That’s probably one of the things that I am most proud of, at this point in the season where we sit in the table, we are just as motivated and just as hungry to get the next result and perform each game.”

London City Lionesses will need to be at their absolute best to get anything this afternoon. Looking back on November’s 4-1 home victory over The Foxes, Phillips said that her side simply turned up and performed on the day.

“We wanted it more on the day,” she said “I think that we had a couple of weeks of preparation leading into that match obviously, it was early in me taking over the team.

“Ultimately, we found a way to beat them in transition moments and tucked away our chances very nicely.

“I think that it really came down to the fact that we showed up and competed, we didn’t take the game lightly and we might have been a little bit underestimated on the day which won’t happen this time.”

London City Lionesses’ FA Women’s Championship fixture at Leicester City is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
