Chelsea midfielder Guro Reiten was on target for Norway as they defeated Belgium 2-0 in Brussels this evening.
The 26-year-old netted the opening goal for Martin Sjogren’s side as they went on to record a comfortable victory at the King Baudouin Stadium.
Reiten was one of six Barclays FA Women’s Super League players to start the match in Brussels. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Cecilie Fiskerstrand was fielded in goal while Ingrid Moe Wold (Everton), Kristine Bjordal Leine (Reading) and Cecilie Kvamme (West Ham United) played in defence. Reiten was joined in an advanced midfield role by Reading’s Amalie Eikeland.
Norway had to wait until just before the break to score the game’s opening goal. Reiten curled a stunning free-kick over the wall and into the corner of Belgian goalkeeper Justien Odeurs’ net. Sjogren’s side then held their narrow lead for the majority of the second half before substitute Lisa-Marie Karlseng Utland’s goal 17 minutes from time put daylight between Norway and their opponents.
This evening’s fixture is the first of two international friendly matches which Norway will play during the current international window. Sjogren’s side will now look ahead to a trip to the BRITA-Arena in Wiesbaden on Tuesday where they will take on Germany.
