PREVIEW: Chelsea v London City Lionesses

Chelsea begin their quest for yet another trophy on Friday evening when The Blues take on second tier side London City Lionesses in a Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Kingsmeadow.

Emma Hayes’ side reached the quarter-finals last season before being dumped out by eventual finalists Everton at Goodison Park.

Chelsea go into the tie on the back of a busy period of international football for several members of their squad. Given the miles which a number of players have clocked up in recent days, along with the fact that Chelsea have huge games against Manchester City and Bayern Munich on the horizon, manager Hayes could opt to make changes to her squad. The likes of Hannah Blundell, Sophie Ingle and Jess Carter could be handed starts while it will be intriguing to see which player is selected to start the match in goal with all three keepers having been in action in midweek.

London City Lionesses make the short trip to Kingsmeadow having lost three of their last four matches. Scoring goals has been the biggest problem for Melissa Phillips’ side in recent weeks with The Pride having not found the back of the net in six hours of football. The Lionesses performed well despite losing 2-0 at Leicester City last time out and boss Phillips could name a similar starting line-up.

London City Lionesses’ Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Chelsea at Kingsmeadow kicks-off at 7pm on Friday evening. The match will be available for fans to stream live on Chelsea’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
