Burnley won’t change their identity for Manchester United says manager Bee

Burnley manager Matt Bee says that his side will retain their identity and playing principles when they take on Manchester United in their Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie on Sunday.

The Clarets play their football in the FA Women’s National League North, two levels below Casey Stoney’s star-studded side. With all of the expectancy being placed upon United, there is no pressure on Burnley to deliver and they can arguably play with some freedom.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Burnley boss Bee said that his side will simply be themselves against United on Sunday and they won’t change their methods.

“It is about attacking the game in a realistic way,” Bee said. “We have to play it our way and we have to retain our identity in the performance, we have to attack the game with no fear, we have to retain the way that we approach it.

“We have to be realistic. They are going to dominate a lot of moments in that game but we have to be threatening in the moments that we can and make sure that everything is left out on that pitch.”

Burnley’s opponents Manchester United come into the game with a number of their players having been away on international duty over the course of the last fortnight. United boss Casey Stoney could opt to rest some of her top players but Bee hopes that his side will come up against the strongest side possible.

“To go up against Casey Stoney who is doing an unbelievable job at Manchester United and to compete against the best is what we do it for,” Bee said. “I hope they bring everyone, I hope they bring all of the big guns.

“We have worked so hard to get here and when you have competitions like this, you want to see them play everyone.

“Whether I will be saying that after 60 minutes or not will depend on how we apply ourselves but I certainly hope that they bring as many as the big names as possible.”

The Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round fixture between Burnley and Manchester United at the County Ground is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and will be available for fans to watch live on Clarets+ and MUTV.
