Manchester United are into the fifth round of this season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup after defeating Burnley 6-0 at The County Ground in Leyland this afternoon.
Kirsty Hanson netted a brace while there were also goals for Millie Turner, Ella Toone, Lucy Staniforth and Amy Turner as United eased into the last-16.
United started the match sharply and only a Cara Bickett block denied Jess Sigsworth the opening goal.
The deadlock would soon be broken when Millie Turner headed home via the crossbar before Toone looped in a superb second from outside of the box.
Jane Ross and Sigsworth then missed good opportunities from inside the area before Burnley keeper Lauren Bracewell got down to gather a Toone shot.
Staniforth coolly chipped in United’s third goal before Amy Turner swept home a Hanson pass to hand the visitors a 4-0 advantage at the break.
United had a fifth goal very early in the second half as Hanson found the net with a shot across goal before the same player notched the game’s sixth goal just before the hour when she headed home from close range after Sigsworth’s initial shot had struck the bar.
Casey Stoney made a number of changes to her side in the second half which arguably slightly disjointed the flow of the United attack. Hanson looked to be their greatest threat with the forward twice firing just wide from good positions before Ross saw a scuffed effort claimed by Bracewell.
Substitute Christen Press then saw an effort crash off the crossbar late on before Hanson again sent a shot wide of the target as the game ended 6-0 in United’s favour.
Stoney’s side will now face either Leicester City or Liverpool at home in the fifth round.
