‘We are striving to be better’ – Brighton boss Powell wants her side to continue to aim high

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell says that her side are continuing to strive to be better ahead of this weekend’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Reading.

The Seagulls are on course for a top half of the table finish in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and a positive result against Reading this weekend should virtually confirm their place in the top six.

Speaking in her pre-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Powell said that her side are fully focused on continuing to progress up the table.

“We want to keep looking up, we are striving to be better with every game,” said Powell. “It is a nice position to be in where we are not fighting at the bottom of the table to stay in the league. I’d rather be fighting at the top to win the league, we are obviously in the middle of the table.

“Every game that we play we want to win. If we win, it takes us further up so that is what we are aiming for.”

Brighton & Hove Albion have struggled against Reading since their promotion to the top flight and Powell says that she is looking for an improved performance from her side against The Royals this time around.

“I look at them as a team who perhaps we haven’t beaten, we haven’t always performed,” said the Albion boss. “I think we lost in the first season and played quite well but since then, I don’t actually think that we have performed well against them and that is obviously credit to them.

“Generally when we perform well, we get something out of it. Whether we win or lose, we always get something good out of it. I think we are looking for a good performance and hopefully, that translates into a win which will be a first and there will be signs of encouragement and signs of improvement.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Reading at The Madejski Stadium is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
