PREVIEW: Liverpool v London City Lionesses

Liverpool host London City Lionesses this afternoon as The Reds look to become ‘the best of the rest’ in the FA Women’s Championship, following Leicester City’s title win.

The Merseyside club currently sit one point behind second-placed Durham after 19 games. Meanwhile, London City Lionesses have secured their sixth-place finish and this last game of the season may be seen as a ‘free hit for the mid-table side.

Liverpool were involved in a hard-fought game last time out as they battled to a 1-0 away win against Sheffield United. A 30th-minute Amalie Thestrup goal was enough to see Amber Whiteley’s side battle to victory despite a late Taylor Hinds red card.

London City Lionesses’ last game in the league came almost a month ago, a 2-0 loss to champions Leicester City, but The Pride have played in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup since, falling to a 5-0 defeat against Chelsea.

The reverse fixture between these two sides came back in December where Liverpool ran out 1-0 winners, defender Meikayla Moore was the surprise goalscorer.

The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Liverpool and London City Lionesses is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
