Chelsea will welcome defender and captain Magda Eriksson back to the side as they take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final tie at Kingsmeadow this afternoon.
The Blues trail Jens Scheuer’s side 2-1 from the first leg at the FC Bayern Campus Platz 1 last weekend.
Swedish centre-back Eriksson missed that tie after failing to recover in time from a knock sustained in The Blues’ recent 5-0 Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round victory over London City Lionesses at Kingsmeadow but she has returned to the side for the second leg this afternoon.
Eriksson replaces Welsh international Sophie Ingle at the heart of the defence. Ingle will move into midfield this afternoon in place of Guro Reiten. Manager Emma Hayes’ other change sees youngster Niamh Charles come in for Jonna Andersson at left-back, a big decision given her previous lack of experience in that position.
Chelsea are bidding to reach a first UEFA Women’s Champions League final in what is their fifth European campaign. The Blues have reached the semi-final stage on two previous occasions, losing out to VfL Wolfsburg and Lyon. Manager Hayes will oversee Chelsea for the 30th time in European competition at Kingsmeadow this afternoon.
The match kicks-off at 12.30pm and will be broadcast live on BT Sport 1.
