Sheffield United’s teenage forward Keri Matthews is leaving the club to take up an opportunity in the United States with Arizona State University.
The 18-year-old attacker has been a member of the Sheffield United senior squad for the last two seasons, impressing both former boss Carla Ward and the club’s current head coach Neil Redfearn.
It has today been reported that Matthews is leaving Sheffield United to move to the United States. Matthews will combine her football with her studies after securing a scholarship with Arizona State University. The Blades confirmed the news of Matthews’ departure via a post on their official club Twitter account.

Matthews was handed her first experience of senior football in Sheffield United’s 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa on the opening day of last season. The youngster played the first hour of the match at The Trevor Brown Memorial Ground in Boldmere. Since making her debut for The Blades, Matthews has made a further 15 appearances in red and white in the FA Women’s Championship.
The forward is the third player to leave Sheffield United in recent weeks. Goalkeeper Becky Flaherty moved to Blackburn Rovers on an emergency transfer last month while defender Leandra Little has opted to retire at the end of the season.
