Chelsea forward Pernille Harder, Everton pair Rikke Sevecke and Nicoline Sorensen and Aston Villa’s Stine Larsen have been named in the Denmark squad for next month’s international friendlies against Australia and Spain.
Lars Søndergaard’s side face Australia in Horsens on Thursday 10 June before taking on Spain in Alcorcon five days later.
The Danish Football Association, The DBU, announced head coach Søndergaard’s 23-player squad for next month’s camp earlier today with four Barclays FA Women’s Super League players making the cut.
Chelsea forward Harder could captain Denmark as she looks to move clear at the top of the nation’s all-time record goalscoring charts. She is currently tied on 65 goals with fellow Danish legend Merete Pedersen. Aston Villa forward Larsen has also been named in the squad alongside Everton pair Sevecke and Sorensen.
Denmark’s friendly matches will provide the team with an opportunity to develop further ahead of their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia-New Zealand 2023 qualifying campaign which begins in September. The Danes have been drawn in a winnable group alongside Malta, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Russia.
Denmark are bidding to qualify for a FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in 16 years. The nation have not appeared at the world’s most high-profile footballing tournament since they exited at the group stage in 2007 in China.
