West Ham United forward Adriana Leon has been recalled into the Canada squad by head coach Bev Priestman after missing the April international window through injury.
The 28-year-old last featured for Canada in the 2021 SheBelieves Cup in February before undergoing surgery on a broken foot.
Leon’s injury was a long-standing one but she has now recovered and has been called into the Canada squad for next month’s pre-Olympic Games friendly fixtures against the Czech Republic and Brazil.
The West Ham United forward is joined in Priestman’s 28-player squad by three other English-based players. Tottenham Hotspur defender Shelina Zadorsky features just weeks after committing her future to the North Londoners, while Chelsea’s Jessie Fleming and Manchester City’s Janine Beckie have also been called up.
Liverpool goalkeeper Rylee Foster is not one of the four goalkeepers selected by Preistman. The 22-year-old was injured in The Reds’ penultimate game of the season against Sheffield United and she left the field on a stretcher. It is not known whether her omission from the squad is due to injury or head coach Priestman’s preference towards other goalkeepers.
Canada take on the Czech Republic on Friday 11 June before facing Brazil on Monday 14 June just four months after the pair last met in the 2021 SheBelieves Cup.
