Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle has been called up by Spain for their international friendly double header against Belgium and Denmark next month.
Jorge Vilda’s side will face both nations in Santo Domingo in Alcorcon with the games acting as preparation for Spain’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualification campaign.
Manchester United full-back Batlle is the only English-based player to be named in Spain head coach Vilda’s 25-player squad. She is one of just three members of the squad who are currently playing their football outside of Spain, Lyon’s Lola Gallardo and Paris Saint-Germain’s Irene Paredes being the others.
Batlle could win her 10th and 11th senior international caps during the upcoming international window. She last appeared for Spain as a second half substitute in their 3-0 victory over Mexico in April.
Spain begin their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualification campaign against the Faroe Islands in September. Vilda’s side are the red hot favourites to qualify as group winners with Spain also being joined in their group by Hungary, Ukraine and Scotland. Spain have qualified for the last two FIFA Women’s World Cups, exiting in the group stage in Canada in 2015 and reaching the round of 16 in France in 2019.
Next month’s friendlies against Belgium and Denmark will take place on Thursday 10 June and Tuesday 15 June.
