Manager’s Player of the Year Lord-Mears signs new Sheffield United deal

Sheffield United midfielder Rhema Lord-Mears has signed a new two-year deal with the FA Women’s Championship club.

The 26-year-old joins Sophie Walton, Charley Docherty and Maddy Cusack in extending her contract at The Technique Stadium.

Sheffield United announced news of Lord-Mears’ new deal to FAWSL Full-Time via an official club press release.

The Blades signed Lord-Mears from their FA Women’s Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers in January 2020. Since moving to South Yorkshire, Lord-Mears has represented Sheffield United on 21 occasions in the FA Women’s Championship while she has netted one league goal. The player has gone from strength-to-strength in her time with the club, winning the Manager’s Player of the Year award for her performances this season.

After signing her new deal, Lord-Mears told Sheffield United’s official media sources “I’m really settled at Sheffield United now and I’ve enjoyed working with Redders (Neil Redfearn). It’s a good club with good foundations and the progression we’ve made is definitely there to see.

“To win the award was sentimental to me personally but overall, I’m just really happy to be developing my game.”

Lord-Mears is the first player to extend her contract for multiple years with all of Sheffield United’s other agreed extensions having been one-year deals.
