New Manchester City signing Losada ready to test herself in the ‘toughest league’ again

New Manchester City signing Vicky Losada says that she is looking forward to challenging herself again in what she believes is the toughest league in Europe.

The 30-year-old was unveiled by Manchester City yesterday with the player having signed a two-year deal at The Academy Stadium. Losada will play in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for the second time in her career after spending two years at Arsenal in 2015 and 2016.

When speaking in a Manchester City press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Losada said that she is ready to test herself again in what she believes is the toughest league in Europe.

“The English league is the toughest league;” Losada said. “I have seen Manchester City play and they remind me of four years ago when I played for Barca, every year they are better and hopefully we will get the chance to win trophies this year.

“Manchester City is a big team, I want to play in big games like in the Champions League. I know that they haven’t won the league trophy for the last five years and I think that I can help them a lot.”

Barcelona disposed of Manchester City in last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League. The Catalan club knocked The Cityzens out at the quarter-final stage en route to lifting the trophy in Gothenburg in May. Losada strongly believes that Manchester City were the best team that Barcelona played last season.

She added “I think that Manchester City were the best team that we played against. They respected us too much in the first game but they definitely showed their character in the second leg. For me, it was the perfect team to join after what I saw last season.”

Losada made her final Barcelona appearance less than a fortnight ago but the player says that she is already working hard on keeping fit ahead of linking-up with her new teammates later this month.

She said “I haven’t had my holidays yet. As a result of COVID, we (Barcelona) were still playing until 27 June. I wanted to play until the end because it was my club and I got to say the most beautiful goodbye.

“I am still training here with a personal trainer, I don’t want to stop, I am really looking forward to next season.

“I know a lot of the girls are at the Olympics but hopefully, I can join the club, the staff and the girls that are there now by the end of this month.”

In addition to the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Losada arrives in Manchester with six Spanish titles to her name and seven Spanish Cups. She has also won the Spanish Women’s Super Cup and eight Catalan Cups.
