Celtic forward Ewens signs for Birmingham City

Birmingham City have completed the signing of Celtic forward Sarah Ewens for an undisclosed fee according to reports on the Blues’ official website.

The 29-year-old moves to St Andrew’s on a two-year deal subject to international clearance.

Ewens joined former club Celtic from Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) rivals Hibernian in December 2016 and she has gone on to net 64 goals in 98 games for the Glasgow giants. The player was a member of the Celtic side which finished as Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) runners-up last season.

After securing her move to Birmingham City, the player said “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s really good to be here and I can’t wait to get started. It is massive for me, coming down, and playing in the top league.

“I love scoring goals and, hopefully, I can bring that to my game down here and also some assists as well. I am a very attacking player and I hope to bring those abilities to Birmingham.”

Ewens spent the early days of her career in Edinburgh with Spartans before moving to Hibs in early 2016. In her season on Leith, the player won the Scottish Women’s FA Cup and the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup and she gained experience of playing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Despite not picking up the silverware that she will have hoped for at Celtic, Ewens has played a big role in the development of the club and she will now be hoping to make an impact in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with Birmingham City.
