Versatile attacker Smith joins Birmingham City

Birmingham City have completed the signing of Leicester City promotion winner Libby Smith on a two-year deal according to reports on the Blues’ official website.

The 19-year-old was released by The Foxes at the end of last season and therefore joins Birmingham City on a free transfer.

Smith made 14 appearances for The Foxes as they won the FA Women’s Championship title with an eight-point margin. The player can play as an out-and-out striker or as a winger while she featured much deeper for former club Leicester City at times last season.

After completing her move to Birmingham City, Smith said “I am really excited to be here. It’s a great opportunity for myself and the girls this season and I can’t wait to get going.

“I’m looking to make a mark and make an impact in the WSL.

“I can see that he (Scott Booth) has got great ambitions for the Club, that is something that I want to be part of. He has got great experience himself and as a manager.

“I am capable of playing full-back too but my bread and butter is scoring goals and getting assists and being in that final third. I am a fast and direct player, and I will give everything for the team.”

Smith enjoyed two spells with Leicester City. She initially joined the club as a youth player before later returning to the East Midlands and making her mark as a senior player. Smith made 38 appearances for Leicester City in the second tier while she netted five league goals.
