Arsenal defeated Chelsea 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at The Emirates Stadium earlier today but The Gunners face a nervous wait to determine the extent of the injury sustained by midfielder Jordan Nobbs.
The 28-year-old left the field on a stretcher early in the second half after going into a challenge with Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert and Arsenal will be hoping that the injury is nothing too serious with the club facing a hectic start to the season both domestically and in Europe.
Both sides were without a whole host of senior players due to the Olympics and injury and it was Arsenal who took a first half lead in N7. Debutant Frida Maanum played in Katie McCabe to fire the ball home from inside the area.
Nobbs sustained her injury eight minutes into the second half before both sides made several changes as the last half-hour mirrored youthful line-ups which you would expect to see in a WSL Academy fixture.
It was Chelsea who levelled matters 10 minutes from time through Reanna Blades, a moment that she is sure to treasure forever.
An entertaining game looked set to end level until Arsenal youngster Freya Jupp picked her spot seven minutes from time and impressively fired the ball beyond Chelsea keeper Ann-Katrin Berger.
Arsenal and Chelsea will meet again in their opening match of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season over the first weekend of September. The Gunners will again have home advantage.
