Blackburn Rovers keeper Brooks signs on for new season

Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Alex Brooks has signed a contract for the coming season according to reports on the Lancashire club’s official website.

The 26-year-old Wythenshawe-born stopper moved to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium last season and she went on to enjoy an impressive campaign with Rovers.

Brooks represented the club on 14 occasions in the FA Women’s Championship, recording five consecutive clean sheets in the process. The keeper’s impressive form was a factor in Gemma Donnelly’s side avoiding being involved in a relegation scrap last season.

With Brooks being an important member of the Rovers squad, the club have today agreed a deal with the player for the new season.

The keeper started her career with Manchester City before dropping down the footballing pyramid to join AFC Fylde. Brooks first featured for Rovers briefly in 2018 before later going on to spend time with Sheffield United and Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Birmingham City.

After struggling for game time with the Blues, Brooks returned to Rovers for her second spell. The keeper’s performances for her team saw her named the club’s joint-Player’s Player of the Year for the 2020/2021 season. She will now be looking to further impress in the upcoming campaign.
