Former Crystal Palace defender Clifford joins Watford

Former Crystal Palace defender Georgia Clifford has completed a move to newly-promoted Watford according to reports on The Golden Girls’ official website.

The 22-year-old centre-back moves to the Hertfordshire club on a free transfer after leaving her former club at the end of last season.

Clifford spent one season as a Palace player in which she made four appearances in the FA Women’s Championship. The player came through the youth ranks at Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Reading before later going on to feature for Oxford United and Palace.

After completing the capture of the defender, Watford boss Clinton Lancaster said “Georgia has experience in the Championship and she’s a good, solid defender who has a lot of pace. She’s aggressive, not afraid to put a challenge in, good in the air and has a good range of passing.

“She has impressed me with her ability to play both as a full-back and a centre-back, she’s versatile which is certainly something we’ll need throughout the season.”

Clifford becomes the sixth new addition at Watford so far this summer. The player joins Amber-Keegan Stobbs, Ylenia Priest, Flo Fyfe, Mia Smith and Jenna Legg in signing on with The Golden Girls for the new campaign.
