PREVIEW: Rangers v Chelsea

Chelsea’s preparations for the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season continue on Thursday evening when Emma Hayes takes her side to Glasgow to face Scottish Women’s Premier League club Rangers in a pre-season friendly.

The Blues take on Malky Thomson’s side at the Rangers Training Centre where a limited number of fans will be in attendance.

Rangers go into the match on the back of an 8-0 derby victory over Queens Park on Sunday in the SWPL Cup. Scotland international Sam Kerr netted two goals in that match, as did former Manchester United forward Jane Ross and both players could feature against Chelsea on Thursday.

The Gers ended last season in third place in the Scottish Women’s Premier League table after being beaten to European qualification by city rivals Celtic and Thomson’s side will be hoping to push on and gatecrash the top two this season.

Chelsea have taken a 15-player squad north of the border with a host of Olympic stars again missing. Senior players Ann-Katrin Berger, Beth England, Drew Spence, Erin Cuthbert, Guro Reiten, Jess Carter, Ji So-Yun, Melanie Leupolz and Pernille Harder are members of what is an otherwise a very youthful squad. Youngster Reanna Blades is not in the squad despite recently hitting the headlines with her goal in the 2-1 pre-season defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The pre-season friendly fixture between Rangers and Chelsea kicks-off at 7.30pm on Thursday evening and will be available for fans to stream live on The Blues’ YouTube channel, on their Facebook page and on the 5th Stand App.
