Goalkeeper Weiß swaps Aston Villa for VfL Wolfsburg

Departing Aston Villa goalkeeper Lisa Weiß has completed a move to German FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg according to reports on the She-Wolves’ official website.

The 33-year-old’s Villa departure was confirmed earlier this afternoon and the player’s move to VfL Wolfsburg has quickly been announced.

Weiß spent one season with Villa in which she made 21 appearances for the club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Her place in the side was always going to be at threat had she stayed at Villa this season given the recent arrival of England international goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.

After sealing her return to Germany, Weiß said “I’m really looking forward to the challenge. I’m happy to be back in the women’s Bundesliga after three years abroad.

“VfL Wolfsburg is a top club in European women’s football and I’m really looking forward to the challenging tasks that lie ahead of us this season. I still know some of my new teammates from my time in Essen and Lyon, but regardless of that, the whole team gave me a very warm welcome.”

Despite Weiß’ Villa departure, the Midlands club still have two very good goalkeepers on their books with summer signing Hampton set to be challenged for the first choice jersey by Sian Rogers.
