Liverpool loan Brighton & Hove Albion keeper Startup

Liverpool have completed the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Katie Startup on a season-long loan deal according to reports on The Reds’ official website.

The 22-year-old challenged Megan Walsh and Cecilie Fiskerstrand for the number one jersey at Brighton & Hove Albion last season but she spent the campaign as the club’s third choice goalkeeper.

Startup made her name at Charlton Athletic where she enjoyed two spells. The player recorded 10 clean sheets in 36 FA Women’s Championship fixtures for The Addicks. She will now be looking to challenge goalkeepers Rachael Laws and Rylee Foster at loan club Liverpool this season.

After completing her loan move to Merseyside, Startup said “It’s really exciting to be a part of the changes at the club with Matt (Beard) coming in and to see where this group can take us.

“It’s a really friendly group and the training quality has been great. I had a really positive chat with Matt and Joe (Potts) the goalkeeping coach before signing, so I knew it was going to be quality.

“I’m really enjoying it already. Obviously it was a positive campaign last season and hopefully we can go one or two steps further this year.”

Startup becomes Liverpool boss Beard’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
