Leicester City have announced the news that they will play the majority of their home games at The King Power Stadium this season.
The Foxes won promotion to the top flight from the FA Women’s Championship last season after previously playing their home games at Farley Way, home of men’s non-league side Quorn FC.
Leicester City have this evening provided an update on this season’s arrangements for home fixtures via their official website. The club have confirmed that the vast majority of their games will be staged at their traditional home of The King Power Stadium while Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium will be used as a secondary option when there are fixture clashes between the men’s and women’s sides.
Speaking following the announcement, Leicester City’s Chief Executive, Susan Whelan said “We’re delighted to be able to confirm that King Power Stadium will be the primary venue to LCFC Women for the upcoming WSL season.
“The Football Club is committed to drive forward the development of women’s football in Leicestershire and we believe this will be a significant step in that journey.
“The team have already experienced playing at King Power Stadium last season when they lifted the Women’s Championship trophy after a brilliant campaign and they now have a chance to create more history in front of Leicester City supporters.”
Leicester City are one of the clubs who are very much leading the way when it comes to developing a ‘one club’ mentality. The Foxes have significantly backed their women’s team over the last 12-18 months, allowing manager Jonathan Morgan to build a full-time squad which comfortably won the FA Women’s Championship title last season. Leicester City have further strengthened with some quality additions over the summer and they look set to be really competitive in their first campaign in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
