Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City will be hoping for improved campaigns as the eagerly-anticipated Barclays FA Women’s Super League season gets underway this weekend.
The pair meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they get their respective seasons underway.
Tottenham Hotspur fans will hope to see their team build on their eighth-place finish from last season. A number of players have moved on over the summer including Siri Worm, Lucy Quinn and Rianna Dean, however, the arrival of prolific goalscorer Kyah Simon, along with ex-Arsenal forward Chioma Ubogagu will provide plenty of optimism. The loan signing of midfielder Tang Jiali will have also left fans excited. Up to nine players could make their debuts for Spurs on Saturday after joining the club over the summer.
Scott Booth and his Birmingham City team go into the new season knowing that they face a tough task to stay in the top flight after narrowly avoiding relegation on the last day of the 2020/2021 campaign. Booth left Glasgow City in the summer where he won six successive Scottish Women’s Premier League titles. The Scot has been able to bolster his squad with no less than 13 players having joined the club. The Blues side will very much be a mix of youth and experience this season.
There was controversy in this fixture last season when an injury pile up in the Birmingham City camp led to the game being called off and subsequently, the points were handed to Spurs despite other games that weekend having been rearranged due to similar issues. The visitors will be hoping to create better memories of the game this weekend.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium kicks-off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon with tickets remaining on sale via the Spurs ticketing site.
