Everton pair Dali and Gauvin receive French call-ups for upcoming qualifiers

Everton duo Kenza Dali and Valérie Gauvin have received call-ups to the French national team for this month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying matches.

Les Bleues travel to Patras to take on Greece on Friday 17 September before facing Slovenia in Murska Sobota on Tuesday 21 September.

French head coach Corinne Diacre has today named her 25-player squad for those two matches with Everton pair Dali and Gauvin both being selected for duty.

Dali has been capped by France on 34 occasions at senior level while she has netted six goals. She most recently hit the back of the net as France defeated Germany 1-0 in their last outing in June. Everton teammate Gauvin has two more senior caps to her name than Dali while she has scored 16 goals for her country.

France will be aiming to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in two years’ time and then finally produce their top form at a major tournament. Les Bleues have boasted plenty of talent in their ranks for a number of years but the are yet to advance beyond the quarter-final stage of a major tournament.

France hosted the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019 but they were beaten 2-1 in the quarter-finals by eventual world champions the United States.
