PREVIEW: Reading v Arsenal

Reading will be hoping to get their first points of the season on the board in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League when Arsenal are the visitors to the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Sunday.

The Royals lost 2-0 at Manchester United on opening day but it could have been a different story had Brooke Chaplen’s effort which hit the crossbar and bounced down on the line have been deemed to have been over. Arsenal’s opening game saw them defeat Chelsea 3-2 at The Emirates Stadium in a match which again produced a controversial decision with Beth Mead having been offside for the winning goal.

Reading boss Kelly Chambers could welcome Belgian international Justine Vanhaevermaet into the squad for the first time. Forward Natasha Dowie missed last weekend’s game through injury and it is unknown whether she will be fit to face Arsenal.

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall will welcome Noëlle Maritz back to the squad after she was suspended for the midweek trip to Slavia Prague in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Simone Boye Sørensen, Jordan Nobbs, Viktoria Schnaderbeck and Malin Gut remain sidelined with injury while it is not known when Tobin Heath will be available for selection. Manuela Zinsberger, Jen Beattie, Lia Wälti and Katie McCabe could all be recalled to the starting XI.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Reading and Arsenal at the Select Car Leasing Stadium kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday. Tickets remain available and can be purchased by clicking here.
