Tottenham Hotspur forward Kyah Simon has pulled out of the Australian squad for this month’s international camp following consultation with national team boss Tony Gustavsson.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official Football Media Australia press release this morning. Simon is one of two players to withdraw, the other being defender Ellie Carpenter. Australian head coach Gustavsson has called Indiah-Paige Riley and Clare Wheeler into the squad in place of the two players who have withdrawn.
The reason for Spurs forward Simon’s withdrawal has not been specified by Australia, however, the player did look to be in a little bit of discomfort around the knee area during her side’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at The Academy Stadium on Sunday. The player made her debut for Spurs in that match and featured for the first hour before being replaced by Kit Graham.
Simon joined Spurs in the summer from Dutch club PSV but only linked up with the North Londoners a short time before the start of the new season as a result of her involvement at the Olympic Games with her national team.
Australia will hold an international camp this month before taking on the Republic of Ireland in an international friendly match at the Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday.
