Manchester City entered into Conti Cup ‘Group of Death’ as fixture dates are revealed

Manchester City have been placed into Group B for this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup following their early exit from the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The Cityzens would have gained an automatic place in the quarter-finals of the competition along with Chelsea and Arsenal had they not have been defeated over two legs by Real Madrid in Round 2 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The Football Association have today issued a press release which formally confirms Manchester City’s place in the group stage of this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup. They will compete alongside Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Manchester United, Everton and Leicester City along with high-flying second tier club Durham in Group B, a group which is undoubtedly the toughest of the five groups.

Manchester City faced both Manchester United and Everton in last season’s group stage. The Cityzens went on to win their group quite comfortably.

The group stage will run from Wednesday 13 October 2021 until Wednesday 15 December 2021. The five group winners will progress to the quarter-finals while Manchester City’s inclusion in the group stage now means that the best overall runner-up will also progress.

In other news, sponsors Continental Tyres have extended their deal by a further year to cover this season’s competition. This will be their 11th year of sponsorship.

The 2021/2022 FA Women’s Continental League Cup final is scheduled to take place on the weekend of 5/6 March 2022 and will be broadcast live on the BBC.
