New Arsenal forward Tobin Heath was on target for the United States as they defeated Paraguay 9-0 in Cleveland, Ohio this morning in an international friendly.
The 33-year-old is yet to make an appearance for her new club but she got 16 minutes for her country this morning as she continues to build her fitness.
Two close range finishes from veteran forward Carli Lloyd gave the United States an early two-goal lead before Andi Sullivan tapped in a third with Paraguay struggling to deal with set pieces.
Lynn Williams’ heavily deflected effort then made it 4-0 before two more goals from Lloyd handed Vlatko Andonovski’s side a 6-0 lead going into the break.
A seventh goal soon arrived after the interval with Sullivan heading home a Mal Pugh free-kick before Lloyd headed in her fifth goal after being poorly marked for a corner kick.
New Arsenal forward Heath was introduced in the 74th minute in place of Williams and she made her mark in second half stoppage time, cleverly cutting inside before slotting the ball beyond visiting keeper Cristina Recalde.
This morning’s match is one two games for the United States against Paraguay. The pair will again meet in the early hours of Wednesday morning at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
