‘I’ve finally broken the curse’ – Chelsea defender Bright delighted to score first England goal

Chelsea defender Millie Bright says that she has finally broken her England goalscoring curse after netting twice in the Lionesses’ 10-0 victory over Luxembourg last night.

The 28-year-old finally broke her England duck at the 40th time of asking by netting two second half goals at Luxembourg’s National Stadium.

When speaking in the post-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Bright said that she was pleased to finally get off the mark for her country.

“It’s amazing, I feel like I have finally broken the curse by getting on the scoresheet,” Bright said. “I’m proud as always to play for my country but to now finally score for my country is a huge honour.

“Hopefully, the goals will be flooding through now but the hard work continues.”

It has taken Bright five years to find the scoresheet with the Lionesses but she said that her long wait for an England goal never really played on her mind.

She added “It is something that I have always been driven towards and that is something that I definitely want to add to my game both for club and country, being more threatening in the box – whether that’s helping my team score, whether that’s blocking or getting myself on the scoresheet and being that attacking threat.

“I don’t think that it is something that has played on my mind, it is just something that I have had to be patient with. It is a big relief that I have finally succeeded in that and I have just got to continue working hard now and continue being a threat.”

Bright returns to action for her club on Sunday when Chelsea travel to Manchester United in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
